Detective is a mystery and deduction board game created by Anthony E. Pratt and released in 1949. The game is set in a mansion where a mysterious murder has occurred, and players take on the role of detectives trying to solve the case. The objective is to discover who committed the murder, which weapon was used and in which room of the mansion the crime took place. The cards that reveal this information are shuffled and randomly distributed among the players. Players move their pawns around the mansion to investigate different rooms, ask other players questions, and gather information. As information is revealed, players make notes on their note sheets to eliminate possibilities. Players can make accusations by suggesting a specific combination of suspect, weapon, and crime scene. If they are correct, they win the game.
